Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and related powder-based additive manufacturing technologies build parts by selectively fusing or binding powder materials layer by layer.
Powder-Based Printing Principle
In powder-based processes, a thin layer of powder is spread across a build platform and selectively fused or bonded according to the digital design. The surrounding unfused powder provides natural support during printing.
Depending on the system, bonding may occur through thermal sintering, chemical binding or hybrid processes.
Materials and Processing
Powder-based technologies can process polymers, composites, ceramics and metals. Material behaviour depends strongly on powder characteristics, binder chemistry and thermal management.
Post-processing steps such as depowdering, curing or sintering are often required to achieve final properties.
Applications
SLS and related technologies are used for functional parts, tooling, housings, mechanical components and complex geometries that benefit from support-free printing.
The ability to produce robust parts without support structures makes powder-based processes suitable for industrial production.
