What Defines Curing in Resin 3D Printing

Curing is defined by energy, not exposure time alone.

    Core principle

    Energy defines polymerization

Exposure time alone does not define curing outcome. Real curing depends on the amount of light energy delivered to the resin and the way the material responds to that energy.

    Multiple variables define curing

Curing depends on light intensity, exposure duration, wavelength, optical distribution, material absorption and photopolymer reactivity.

Why fixed exposure time is not enough

Two printers using the same exposure time can deliver different energy to the resin. This can produce different cure depth, dimensional behaviour, surface quality and mechanical properties.

    Engineering implication

Curing must be controlled as a system

Stable workflows require energy-based control, not fixed time settings alone. The correct objective is to understand the relationship between exposure conditions, cured thickness and final material behaviour.
